Squamish Community Christmas Care has opened applications for its 46th season of Christmas hampers, and is calling on residents, businesses and volunteers to help match last year’s record.
The program, run entirely by volunteers, delivered more than 490 hampers last year, the most in its history, benefiting over a thousand people in Squamish, according to a news release. The release says the team expects another busy year with growing unaffordability and economic uncertainty.
Anyone experiencing financial need in Squamish can apply for a hamper of food, as well as toys for children. The application deadline is Friday, Nov. 13. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at PearlSpace, Under One Roof, Sea to Sky Community Services or Squamish churches, and can also be downloaded and printed from communitychristmascare.com.
Businesses and community organizations are asked to hold fundraisers through November and the first weeks of December, collect donations at holiday parties, or set out a collection box for new, unwrapped toys. Businesses are asked to register at squamishchristmas@gmail.com so physical donations can be collected by Dec. 7.
Volunteers are needed to pack hampers and deliver them on Dec. 15, and can register at squamishchristmas@gmail.com.
