Downtown Squamish will become an outdoor movie theatre, a concert hall, a gathering place and an open-air street market as the district rolls out its Downtown Squamish Summer Event Series for the second year .

There will be some events from last year, but new events have also been added this year. All events will take place in August.

The summer series kicks off on August 15 with the second annual Night Market at the Park, an open-air market featuring more than 20 vendors from Whistler to the Lower Mainland, offering a wide range of handmade goods as well as locally grown produce, hand-crafted honey and vintage wares.

The market will also feature art installations, live music, family-friendly entertainment and a Cleveland Avenue kids’ and games zone.

On August 22, prepare to walk, bike or bus down to Cleveland Avenue for the first ever Car-Free Cleveland Powered by PechaKucha, a community street party packed with entertainment and activities including street performers, glitter tattoos, a caricaturist, costume parades and live music from the Hairfarmers.

This will be followed by Squamish’s first PechaKucha Night – a gathering of local creatives, innovators and changemakers each given the opportunity to show 20 images for 20 seconds each.

Cinema Under the Stars returns on August 27 in Pavilion Park, this time with an outdoor screening of one of our favourite classics chosen by a community poll, Back to the Future.

August 29 marks the second annual Squamish Talent, a local showcase of Squamish’s musical scene with live performances from participants in both the Under 17 and Adult category. The event is hosted in partnership with the Squamish Academy of Music.

The series wraps up on August 30 with more music, this time from a number of live acts who together will transform O’Siyam Pavilion into an outdoor concert hall for the first annual Celebration of Music.

Live performances will take place throughout the day from musical acts including Connor Roff, Alexandria Maillot, Ruffled Feathers and LOVECoast.
