As the air gets crisper and the sun starts to set earlier. The short days mean less daylight hours to play outside, however, there are still many incredible adventures to experience in Squamish. We compiled this list of the best fall adventures for you and your family to enjoy rain or shine.
Whitewater Kayaking on the Mamquam River – Enjoy stunning scenery and wildlife viewing while learning to play on the rapids of the Mamquam river. The water temperature of the river stays the same glacier fresh all year round. With the right gear, this adventure can be enjoyed all year long. Just remember to layer up and bring warm clothes for after your river run. Be sure to take an introduction to whitewater kayaking course before heading out on the water. Contact Coast River Kayaking for more information on this fun sport.
Mountain Biking – The cooler days and precipitation make fall an excellent time of year to head out and explore the mountain bike trails. Rainy fall days are best spent on the mountain bike trails for a few reasons: It is drier on the tree covered trails than being out in the open and it is a fun challenge to see who can get the most covered in dirt. Just remember to take it easy on the corners when mountain biking on a rainy day.
Fly Fishing – Squamish has a long history of being a world class anglers’ destination. In late August and early September, pink salmon begin to run on the Squamish rivers. Book a guide to show you the best spots and techniques and enjoy a fun day spent fishing in the beautiful Squamish outdoors. If you are heading out on your own, be sure to check and comply with all government fishing licensing requirements.
Horseback Riding – Located in beautiful Upper Squamish Valley, this is a great day trip for locals wanting to get a little further out of town and enjoy a day in the outdoors. Western-style trail riding is open year round in Upper Squamish, and is the best place to spot the return of the first wintering bald eagles. Bring out your inner cowboy this fall by experiencing a true western style horseback adventure.
Mini Golf – If you are looking for a fun family day, be sure to add mini golfing to your itinerary. Whistle Punk Hollow is open year round (when the weather is not too wet) and is fun for all ages. Be sure to stop by for a large scoop of ice cream on the sunny fall days and treat yourself to a nostalgic taste of summer.
Breakfast at Fergies – This local favourite breakfast place is open year round. Fergies offers the same delicious menu throughout the year- along with heated patios and stunning views. Fall is the best season to enjoy the changing scenery while dining outdoors at Fergies.
Scenic Flight to View the Changing Fall Colors – As the air gets crisper and the leaves start to change colors, the changing landscape becomes full of new and vibrant colors. The best way to experience this is with a scenic flight over the mountains of Squamish. Don’t forget your camera for this stunning scenic flight.
When The Rain Falls – Squamish is known to receive some heavy rain during the fall months. If this is the case, take the time to rest, recover and repair your gear. Also remember that it is probably snowing at the top of the mountains and don’t be afraid to get outside and play in the rain. The secret to having fun fall adventures is being properly dressed for all weather conditions.
