Squamish RCMP is investigating an accident on the Sea to Sky Highway that claimed the life of a local man. The pedestrian was identified as a 20-year-old male from Squamish.
On February 3, at approximately 2:30 am, Squamish RCMP responded to a complaint of a male on Highway 99 northbound between Loggers Lane and Finch Drive. Police arrived at the scene and found a pedestrian had been fatally struck by a tractor trailer traveling northbound in the left lane.
The driver of the tractor trailer, as well as witnesses, remained on scene and were cooperative with the investigation. Squamish RCMP along with the Integrated Collision Analysts and Reconstructionist Services (ICARS) and the BC Coroner’s Service are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Highway 99 was closed until mid morning but has now opened to all northbound traffic.
