Squamish RCMP investigating shots fired on Finch Drive

May 15, 2018 6:39am

Squamish RCMP is investigating reports of shots being fired on Finch Drive.

On Tuesday, May 8th, around 12:15 am, the local police were notified that gunshots were heard in the 1000 block of Finch Drive.  The person who reported the shots said he had also seen a flash following the shots.

Squamish RCMP was unable to locate any signs of shots fired but due to the description.

Police say it may have been a bear banger that was set off in the area, but they are investigating.

Police are again reminding people that this is bear season and to ensure that the garbage is properly secured.

On Saturday, May 12, Squamish RCMP were called due to a strange sound heard by a woman around Fourth Avenue in downtown Sqamish.

The woman stated she could continually hear a high pitched alarm in the distance.  Police attended and located a garbage bag ripped open with garbage cans turned over in the area.

The garbage bag had an alarm going off and it was believed a bear in the area dragged the bag into the bush causing the alarm to go off.

The public are reminded that it is bear season out there and garbage is to be kept secured until the morning of garbage pickup.

Anyone with any information regarding the above files are asked to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, text 274637, or go to www.solvecrime.ca
