District to conduct ammonia leak emergency drill

May 22, 2018 7:30am
The district of Squamish will conduct an  emergency drill to simulate the response to an ammonia leak at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre ice arena today, Thursday, May 24 at 11 a.m.
The drill is being held following new regulations introduced by Technical Safety BC and WorkSafeBC.
Patrons already present at Brennan Park Recreation Centre will be directed by staff and emergency officials on what to do when the drill commences.
Patrons are encouraged to participate in the drill, but participation is not mandatory. Dry ice will be used to simulate the ammonia release – vapour may be visible but is harmless.
You can expect minor traffic delays near Brennan Park during this time. Traffic control will be in place.   For more information about ammonia and what the District is doing to ensure safe use and handling of ammonia, go to this link.
