Man in Scream mask terrifies pre-teen in Valleycliffe trail

July 10, 2018 7:15am

See something, say something: That is the message a Valleycliffe mom is giving kids and their parents after her daughter’s chilling experience on a local trail.

Nicole Sims said her daughter was just off the trails by the tennis court behind the Westway apartments when she saw an older shirtless man in the trees.

He was wearing a Scream mask and made a throat cutting action from a distance. He was about 5’ 10’’ and had a heavier building and was carrying a black backpack.

Extremely terrified, she ran home and told Sims about the incident. The incident happened over a week ago and Sims says she reported the incident to the police.

“She came home extremely terrified and told me about the incident and we have since reported it to the police,” Sims said.

Sims said she would encourage community members to pay attention to “odd things” they see in the area and to not hesitate to report them.

“Our kids see more than we think and they don’t know to tell us. I’ll be encouraging her to tell me all the things she sees,” Sims added.

Last week, police also sought information about a man who exposed himself to a woman on a trail in Valleycliffe. The woman told the police the incident happened around 4 pm on June 18 on the trail network near Magnolia and Guilford Drive.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, 50’s, 5’10”, 175 lbs, short grey hair and a navy blue tank top with shorts.

The police didn’t say if it’s the same individual, but is asking the public to contact the police if they have information.

Anyone with any information regarding the above files are asked to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to www.solvecrime.ca
