A new restaurant and a fitness studio are in the works in the business park.

District of Squamish has received an application for a new industrial building on Queens Way, across from Kal Tire in the business park area in Squamish.

The applicant, whose name hasn’t been made public yet, plans on starting multiple businesses in the building, including a restaurant, a fitness studio and a general warehouse.

“The applicant has indicated that the uses they intend to pursue include: fitness studio, warehouse, and restaurant up to 50 seats. These uses are all permitted in the Light Industrial zone,” said Jonas Velaniskis, a senior planner with the district.

While the applicant has indicated those uses, they haven’t been confirmed, said Velaniskis, adding that the uses could change following occupancy.

They would, however, still need to conform to the zoning, which, in this location, allows automobile oriented commercial, heavy equipment sales, motor vehicle repair shops, fitness studio, restaurant to a maximum of 50 seats, and an alcohol beverage manufacturing facility.

The application has not yet reached council, and would need to return to the Advisory Design Panel before it can get before council.

The building, 2,301.9 square metre, is located at 38931 Queens Way.

A high powered Fortis gas line runs along Queens Way on the east side of the street.

The proposed development falls within the 40m buffer of the line and will need to coordinate all works with Fortis, the district noted in a report.
