Squamish is urging trail users to avoid the Ray Peters trail network after a biker reportedly encountered what is believed to be a grizzly bear sow with three cubs.
According to the social media post by the District of Squamish, the encounter happened under the power lines, where the sow reportedly bluff-charged the biker. Trail users are being advised to avoid the area to give the bears space.
The post also advises trail users to keep dogs on leash, carry bear spray, make noise, and remain alert for bear activity. Residents are also reminded to pick ripe and fallen fruit and ensure food and garbage are contained in bear-resistant totes and structures.
Wildlife encounters can be reported to the RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277. The release directs residents to WildSafeBC for more tips and resources.
