Put away the Telcum Powder.
Health Canada says inhaling talcum powder cause serious respiratory illness.
Using it on female genital area could cause ovarian cancer, the agency warned.
Health Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada said Wednesday that inhaling the powder can damage lungs.
When you inhale talc, the fine talc particles will get lodged inside of the lung, and over time there’s a cumulative effect associated with that,” said David Morin, director general of Health Canada’s safe environments directorate.
This was a draft assessment on the safety of talc in products such as cosmetics; baby, body, face and foot powders; diaper and rash creams; and genital antiperspirants and deodorants.
The government will do a final screening assessment and says it will take action on the risks if it’s confirmed the talc in certain products is harmful to human health, the Canadian Press reported.
Earlier this year, a jury in St. Louis ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $4.7 billion to nearly two dozen women in a lawsuit that linked baby powder to ovarian cancer.
