You think there are too many gyms in Squamish?
Well, that depends on your perspective, if you ask the owner of the latest fitness centre to open in Squamish.
“We didn’t know anyone, and we have only been open for three months and we have had a lots of people come through the door,” said Steve Wilson.
Steve and Tiera Wilson opened the Wildlife Gym in the Squamish Business Park in September this year.
The 3500 square feet, two level facility, is located in the business park, next to Backcountry Brewing on Queens Way.
“We didn’t know anyone, and we have only been open for three months and we have had a lots of people come through the door.”
Originally from Saskatchewan, the Wilsons moved to Squamish to pursue a wild life and an opportunity to create a space that could enhance that life style.
A ‘hard working prairie boy turned mountain man’, Steve Wilson has a decade of fitness coaching experience, as well as a mobility specialist.
Tiera Wilson has been coaching athletes for 15 years, and has worked as a strength and conditioning coach in Regina.
A high-performance athletic centre, the Wildlife Gym has a client focus on movement literacy, strength, conditioning and fitness.
Wilson said their forte is offering supervised training for clients.
“It’s not your regular gym, because everything we do we are either programming it for you, or we are supervising and making sure you are doing it properly,” he said.
Wilson said his experience of the past few months shows there is a demand in Squamish for the kind of coaching that the duo offers.
Steve Wilson said their experience in Squamish so far has been very positive.
“It’s been very positive, we have clients who want that kind of personal coaching service,” he said.
