Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Howe Sound.
Expect hazardous winter conditions as an approaching Pacific frontal system brings a messy winter mix to the Sea to Sky corridor today through Thursday.
According to Environment Canada, wet snow is expected to change to heavy rain tonight in Squamish.
Local snowfall accumulations of up to 15 cm are possible away from the water before the changeover to rain occurs. Rainfall amounts are then expected to exceed 50 mm by Thursday afternoon.
Near Whistler, snow will become heavy at times tonight before changing to rain Thursday afternoon.
Snowfall accumulations in excess of 30 cm are possible by Thursday afternoon.
Along the Sea to Sky highway, expect snow to become heavy tonight with significant accumulations.
The transition from heavy snow to heavy rain will begin near Squamish overnight and progress towards Whistler on Thursday.
The agency is warning that rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
