BC Assessment to take photos of Squamish properties

March 27, 2019 11:53am

Beginning in April, BC Assessment will be taking street front property photos of residential properties throughout Squamish.

The photos will be used for property assessment purposes.

BC Assessment employees will be driving through Squamish neighbourhoods and will photograph only the public street front of a home, including the civic (street) address number.

BC Assessment will not retain any personal information related to:

  • Any images of people on the property.
  • Visible signage on a residence (excluding street address), including business signs, signs with names of the people living at the property, and any other type of signage that may relate to the identity of a person. This also includes vehicle license plates.
  • The interior of a residence (i.e.: images that show the inside of a home through a window or open doorway, or the interior of an enclosed vehicle shelter such as a garage).

The work is expected to be complete by the end of April.

Property owners with any questions, verifications or concerns may contact Niv Grewal, BC Assessment Acting Manager of Property Data Maintenance at 1-866-825-8322 (ext. 14260) or nivjeet.grewal@bcassessment.ca

Perhaps the time has come for all B.C. property owners to pay taxes on the purchase price of their properties and not on the over inflated “assessments”.
