Hebrew program connects Squamish kids with Jewish culture and traditions

April 10, 2019 8:53am

The Jewish Federation of Vancouver has launched a new program in Squamish that aims to connect Jewish children to Jewish culture, and traditions.

The Connect Me In initiative has 11 children in Squamish and 17 in Langley who have signed up for the program so far.

Connect Me In is an outreach initiative of Jewish Federation that develops and delivers programs for individuals and families who live in the regional communities outside the City of Vancouver–over half the Metro Vancouver Jewish population.

The program, for ages 7 to 13, will provide fun introduction to Jewish culture and traditions.

Classes will include a day trip to a synagogue, participation in a community kabbalat Shabbat, Bar/Bat Mitzvah prep for older children, learning Hebrew, playing games and activities, and more.

The education program will take place on April 17, May, May 15, May 29, June 5, and June 12, from 4 to 6: 30 pm at the Black Tusk room at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

The cost per class is $10 or $50 for the entire session.

Offered over six sessions, each program is designed to foster a love of Jewish culture and religion, Hebrew language acquisition, celebration of Israel, and an appreciation of Jewish art and music.

The Squamish program also offers bar and bat mitzvah preparation for older students.

You can follow Connect Me In on Facebook to get updates about new and ongoing programs and events. Email Orly at ONaim@jewishvancouver.com for more information or if you need paper forms for the application.
