Two Squamish organisations are among 170 organisations across BC who will be receiving crime prevention grants from the province.
These one-time grants will fund programs that mentor youth to resist joining drugs, support women escaping violence and help indigenous families heal from trauma.
Sea to Sky School District will get $20,000 to train staff on restorative justice or create Peace Circles to help support students and families when they are most vulnerable.
The project will implement a five-day training program in circle and will create a network of ‘experts’ to collaborate on the circle process.
Howe Sound Womens Centre will receive $25,692 for a two-day event to be staged in 2020 featuring a selection of six to eight concurrent workshops.
These workshops will address sexual violence against women, and vulnerable populations for service providers, First Nations and communities based in the Sea to Sky Corridor.
The $6 million in provincial grants will come from the Civil Forfeiture Office.
