Police seek witnesses to serious crash near Lions Bay

May 15, 2019 11:01am

RCMP is seeking any witnesses to a crash in Lions Bay, and is calling upon people to share any dashboard camera video they may have.

On Monday, May 13, 2019 at approximately 3:30 pm, Sea to Sky Traffic Services and Squamish RCMP attended a serious injury collision on Highway 99 involving a vehicle and motorcycle in the U-turn area near Lions Bay.

Upon arrival it was determined that a Kia Rio was using the northbound U-turn lane and turned left across the highway in front of a south bound Triumph motorcycle.

Both motorcycle rider and vehicle driver sustained significant injuries.

Road and weather conditions at the time of the collision were described as dry, with unlimited visibility.

The highway is configured with two lanes north and two lanes south separated by a concrete barrier with a designated U-turn area for both north and south bound traffic.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by Sea to Sky Traffic Services and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and nothing has been ruled out.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call Sea to Sky Traffic Services at 604-892-6100 and quote file number 2019-2775 or, if you wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
