A large multi-agency search remains underway for a missing hiker in the Habrich Ridge area near Squamish.
Squamish RCMP and Squamish Search and Rescue are being assisted by search teams from North Shore, Chilliwack, Lions Bay, Pemberton, Whistler, Ridge Meadows and Coquitlam, with support from the Sea to Sky Gondola.
Tuesday marked the third day of the search for 43-year-old Stanislav Volo. Deteriorating weather led crews to focus on technical, high-alpine terrain, according to an update from Squamish RCMP and Squamish SAR.
Ground crews are being supported by Squamish RCMP and BC RCMP Air Services, along with multiple SAR drone deployments.
Volo was last seen at approximately 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, in the Shannon Basin. His intended route was along Habrich Ridge via the Habrich Climber’s Access and Al’s Habrich Trail.
A tip from a member of the public who reported seeing Volo on Sunday afternoon helped search teams establish a more precise timeline and route, Squamish SAR manager Tyler Duncan said.
Volo is described as five-foot-11 with a medium build, blond hair worn in a ponytail, blue eyes, a goatee and glasses. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, white socks and black running shoes. He also had a gondola-pass lanyard and a small dark backpack containing a red or violet long-sleeved shirt.
Anyone who was hiking on Habrich Ridge or nearby trails Sunday afternoon and may have seen Volo—or who has relevant information about travel through the area since Sunday—is asked to contact Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100.
Authorities have not asked members of the public to conduct their own search. Further official updates will be issued as new information becomes available.
