A ‘spectacular’ firework display, a helicopter hovering above the parade, and stirring performance by Paperboys are some of the exciting highlights of Canada Day celebrations for tomorrow.
There were no fireworks last year.
The celebration will kick-off tomorrow at 10 am with a parade full of red and white travelling down Cleveland Avenue into Stan Clarke Park for the annual First Nations welcome and flag raising.
This year, there will be two locations for events and vehicles will return to the parade. A helicopter will be hovering over the parade. The majority of the day, however, will be in Junction Park & U’Siyam Pavilion with live music, kids activities, food trucks, interactive community booths, and a small artisan market.
The opening act for the day’s activities will be five-time JUNO nominees and CBC Music’s “Canada’s Favourite Kids Entertainer” Bob’s & LoLo. The day will also feature a host of local talent including Aude Ray and The Wells, among others, said Anne Kadwell, DSBIA Executive Director.
The daytime events will draw to a close at Junction Park close at 5 pm. The public is then encouraged to take a family to the Brennan Park on Field #4 at 7 pm where there will be a stage, food trucks, beer & cider garden as well as room to set up blankets and chairs.
This year Canada Day will be rocked by JUNO winners, and West Coast Music Award winners the Paperboys. The much-loved folk-rock band have spent that last five years on the road playing all over North America and Europe, said Kadwell.
“A spectacular firework display will return for Canada Day 2019 following the Paperboys, and will be the culmination of this year’s festivities,” she added.
“Using two venues will allow us to cater to family activities and community booths in the daytime and hold fireworks with beer gardens and music in the evening” she said.
Canada Day celebrations are made possible thanks to Solterra Development, Ravenwoods, Heritage Canada, the District of Squamish and numerous other local sponsors.
