Whistler is installing 12 new water bottle stations throughout the community – helping to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic, promote Whistler’s great tap water and enhance the Whistler park experience.
The new stations also work as a water fountain station. Residents and visitors will be able to find the new water bottle filling stations at the following locations around Whistler: Whistler Olympic Plaza, Rebagliati Park, Village Square, near the Whistler Golf Course, Whistler Fitzsimmons Bike Park, Rainbow Park, Meadow Park, Lost Lake Park, Lakeside Park, and Bayly Park.
The RMOW anticipates more water bottle filling stations will be installed next year. Details on locations will be announced at a later date.
“The new water bottle filling stations are a fantastic step forward in helping us all disrupt our single use habits, while enjoying Whistler’s excellent tap water,” said Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton. “Now, simply by bringing a reusable water bottle to the Village or Whistler’s parks, you can stay refreshed without producing plastic waste.”
Whistler’s water quality is tested at multiple locations every week. Water is tested for E. coli and coliform, pH, residual chlorine, temperature and turbidity. Overall chemistry is tested annually. All bacteriological samples are sent to the BC Ministry of Health Centre for Disease Control laboratory for analysis.
The new water bottle filling stations help move Whistler toward the goal of zero waste, RMOW noted.
