Squamish RCMP warn after two-year-old left alone in hot car

July 31, 2019 10:01am

Squamish RCMP is issuing a warning after a two-year-old was left in a car on a hot day last week.

On July 21, at 1:50 pm, Squamish RCMP and Squamish Fire attended to a complaint from an individual who noticed a small child in the backseat of a vehicle in the parking lot of a local business.

The inside temperature of the vehicle was over 30 degrees when police, with the help of firefighters, removed the two-year-old from the car. He was assessed by BCEHS, and the parents were located and MCFD was contacted regarding the incident.

Squamish RCMP said it is issuing a warning about the  dangers of leaving children unattended in a vehicle, particularly on a hot day.

“Temperatures can rise to lethal levels in a short period of time and we have already seen one tragedy in the Lower Mainland during this summer season,” said Sgt. Sascha Banks
