Now you can know who all Mayor Elliott had been meeting

August 30, 2019 12:04pm

Want to know who Mayor Karen Elliott officially met from April to June? It wasn’t possible just a few days ago but now you can.

From April to June, Mayor Elliott had several meetings with a wide variety of people, but the district simply ‘forgot’ to update the Mayor’s monthly meeting calendar. The last time district updated her official meeting schedule was in March.

But now the district has corrected its “omission”.

After The Squamish Reporter asked the district a few days ago why the Mayor’s meeting calendar was not being updated, the district promptly updated the calendar.

“This page has now been updated to June. Thanks for pointing out the omissions,” said Christina Moore, the communication manager for the district.

Revealing who the Mayor is meeting is a small yet vital factor for citizens to feel confident about their Mayor. Posting Mayor Elliott’s official meeting calendar every month will certainly enable her to retain the confidence of the community.

Posting the Mayor’s calendar online was a key election promise of the previous mayor Patricia Heintzman, an initiative driven by a desire for openness and transparency.

But similar “omissions” kept happening during her tenure too. The calendar wasn’t posted every month, and then it was abruptly stopped in the middle of the year.

Heintzman had taken the initiative of posting the calendar because there was a perception that the mayors were not informing about who they were meeting.
