After knife attack in downtown, police warn: Stay off crime in progress

Squamish RCMP is reminding people to not intervene in a crime in progress and instead call 911 immediately for police assistance.

The warning from police comes after a man tried to stab a citizen. in Downtown Squamish. The citizen saw the man trying to break into a vehicle and intervened to stop him.

The citizen confronted the man and a fight ensued in which the man tried to stab the citizen. Fortunately, he was only able to damage the citizen’s jacket.

The male fled on foot but was later arrested by police after a short pursuit.

“Police want to remind the public of the potential danger of attempting to intervene in a crime in progress and want to encourage the public to call 911 and request police assistance in these incidents,” said Cpl. Christine Robinson of Squamish RCMP.
