Arctic outflow warning for Sea to Sky

January 13, 2020 7:51am

Bundle up, Squamish. An arctic front last night had brought the coldest air so far this winter.

Cold arctic air will continue to funnel out of the mainland inlets and valleys today producing northeast winds of 40 to 60 km/h with gusts as high as 80 km/h, according to Environment Canada.

The strong winds combined with cold temperatures will generate wind chill values of -20 or lower. Temperatures and winds, however, will start to moderate after mid-week.

Ensure that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals, and be prepared for unusually cold temperatures and strong winds.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Road conditions are available at www.drivebc.ca.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
