Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Howe Sound; severe winter weather can be expected on Wednesday.
For Squamish, some snow will fall during the day on Wednesday with the heavier snow arriving late Wednesday afternoon.
Combined with the outflow winds and blowing snow, poor visibility will be a concern for those travelling through Howe Sound.
Snowfall accumulations could top 30 cm but there is some uncertainty with this value, Environment Canada said.
For southern sections of Howe Sound including Bowen Island, severe winds will be a concern Wednesday night.
Strong northerly arctic outflow winds will sharply and suddenly switch to the south or southeast Wednesday night. During the transition, wind gusts could top 100 km/h from the east or southeast.
Snow and blowing snow will change to rain with the wind shift. Travellers and marine users are advised to take caution of the possibility of severe wind shifts Wednesday night and sudden gusts.
To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm. Meanwhile, the Arctic outflow warning remains in effect for the Sea to Sky region.
