BC Liquor Distribution branch is looking to open a cannabis store in town, although it doesn’t have a proposed site for Squamish.

“We have considered a number of sites but at this time we do not have a proposed location for a BC Cannabis Store that we will be bringing forward to Squamish Council, or for the consideration of the community,” said Viviana Zanocco, manager of corporate communications for BC Liquor Distribution Branch.

Since the first BC Cannabis Store opened in Kamloops in 2018, LDB has opened nine stores in the province.

To date, the LDB has received approval from land use authorities to open BC Cannabis Stores in the following communities: Penticton, Fort St John, Parksville, Nanaimo, Oliver, Prince George, Vanderhoof, Vernon, Prince Rupert, Port Coquitlam, Quesnel, Sechelt, Salmon Arm, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, Kelowna, New Westminster.
“At this time, we cannot say when these stores will open, however the LDB’s retail operations team is following stringent timelines as it works towards opening new stores across the province,” she said.

Zanocco said each municipality has a different take on cannabis retail, and the LDB has been working with local governments and municipalities across the province to understand and align with their bylaws and business requirements.

She said the liquor distribution branch has looked at several communities, including Squamish. “At this time, we do not have a proposed site in Squamish.”
