District of Squamish Wildlife Educator says locals may see an increase in coyote activity over the next few months.

It is coyote breeding season, which means coyotes are actively seeking their mates.

Residents may notice an increase in coyote activity over the next few months, and are asked to be extra careful for pets.

“Coyotes can view larger dogs as competition or threat, and smaller dogs as a source of food. Protect your pets by keeping them on leash and close by, and ensure there are no accessible wildlife attractants on your property,” DOS said.

Residents are urged to report wildlife encounters to the Conservation Officer Hotline at 1.877.952.7277, and learn more about coyote behaviour.
