Two more ride-hailing companies approved for Sea to Sky

The Passenger Transportation Board has approved the application of two ride hailing companies to operate in the Lower Mainland and the Sea to Sky.

The Board has decided to approve the applications of Garrindar Singh Parihar to operate in Region 1, which is Lower Mainland, Whistler.

Parihar’s ride-hailing operation is named Apt Ride.

The board has also approved the application of Kabu Ride Inc. to operate in Lower Mainland and Whistler region.

Kabu has also been allowed to operate in the Capital Regional District, – Vancouver Island, Okanagan-Kootenays-Cariboo, and BC North Central.

The Board also refused three applications for ride-hailing in the same region.

The board said the decisions were made after a careful review of the extensive materials received during the application process.

The Passenger Transportation Board had earlier approved Uber and Lyft for ride hailing in the Lower Mainland and Whistler region.

Last week, Lyft wrote to Mayor Karen Elliott saying Squamish would have to wait longer for them to operate as the company struggles to find drivers in town.

“As of now, we do not have enough drivers to service your municipality. Pending changes to our driver supply, our operating area will change, and we will do our best to expand throughout your entire municipality,” Cote told Mayor Karen Elliott in a letter.
