Two local companies are making it easy for the community to be part of the reopening of the Sea to Sky Gondola on February 14.

Squamish Connector, also a partner with the gondola, is offering a free shuttle between Downtown Squamish and the Sea to Sky Gondola all through the family day weekend, from Friday on to Monday.

The first shuttle bus starts at 10 am from the Squamish Chieftain Centre, stopping at the Squamish Adventure Centre to pick up locals on the way to Gondola.

The last shuttle bus will leave the Sea to Sky Gondola at 5 pm.

Meanwhile, the Squamish Taxi will also offer 20 % off the meter rate for the rides to and from the Sea to Sky Gondola on the opening day.

The Sea to Sky Gondola opens six months after the main-haul cable of the gondola was completely severed in an act of vandalism on August 10, 2019, forcing its closure.

Investigation by the RCMP is ongoing.

Work that took place to rebuild the Gondola includes the installation of a new 4.4 km-long main haul cable, assembly and installation of thirty new cabins, and the installation of a new state-of-the-art security system.

For the reopening, the gondola is offering 50% off lift tickets all weekend long in celebration of the love and support they received from their community during the closure.

“We want our guests to know they can travel to the summit on the Sea to Sky Gondola with complete confidence,” says Kirby Brown, the general manager at the Gondola.

“Our protocols would never allow the line to run if there was any damage to the cable, and the security measures installed since the incident will ensure the gondola is secure and protected from any other criminal activity.”

The opening ceremony will kick off on February 14 at 9:15 am, with a special welcome from the team, suppliers, musicians and vendors.

Food and Beverage samples will be available throughout the day at the base as well as the Summit. People will enjoy a collaborative art mural by Paintillio, crafting with Happimess and live music.
