An expanded cardio room at the Meadow Park Sports Centre in Whistler will be officially opened to the public at 2 p.m. on February 25, 2020.
RMOW is inviting the community to join in a short celebration of the new facility, enjoy some cake, work out or just check out the new space.
RMOW says that certain pieces of cardio equipment may not be available from Monday, February 24 at 8 a.m. until Tuesday, February 25 at 3 p.m. as the final touches are put on the expansion.
The $1.4-million cardio room expansion was funded in part by a donation through the Community Foundation of Whistler.
The project includes the expansion of the cardio area, and a larger public stretching area. The expansion also includes a new water fountain, new larger televisions, adjustable lighting, high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows with views of Sproatt and Rainbow Mountain.
“Meadow Park Sports Centre is one of our busiest community hubs,” said Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton.
“This investment in our community means we will be able to continue to provide residents and visitors with an outstanding public facility to help meet their fitness needs. We are very appreciative of the donation through the Community Foundation of Whistler that helped make this project possible.”
Meadow Park Sports Centre was originally built in 1993 and boasts a six-lane 25-metre pool, kid’s pool and lazy river, sauna, steam room, hot tub, an NHL-sided arena, squash courts and weight room in addition to the new cardio room and public stretching area.
An additional investment this year at the centre will also replace the pool’s dehumidifier.
