A man in his 40s who lives in the Fraser Health region is the seventh case of coronavirus identified in BC.
The man was in close contact with the previously reported sixth case that was announced by the government on Feb. 20, 2020.
Both patients remain in isolation at home and are being monitored by public health teams.
The man was confirmed positive based on BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) testing, which is now officially authorized for the coronavirus testing.
Fraser Health is actively investigating and has identified people who were in close contact with the man. They are being contacted by public health officials. Those contacts who may be at risk are now in isolation for 14 days and are being actively monitored for symptoms daily.
The other six B.C. patients with COVID-19 remain in self-isolation at home and under care by public-health teams. Of these seven cases, the first case has recovered, BC Government announced earlier.
“Given the changing dynamics of the outbreak in China and globally, and recognizing we are in the midst of influenza season, we ask all travellers who are returning to B.C. — no matter where they were in the world — to monitor themselves and their children closely for symptoms,” government said.
If any symptoms arise, limit contact with others and contact primary care provider, local public health office or call 811.
