Man with fake rifle in estuary draws police response

staff report
February 28, 2020 12:41pm

Squamish RCMP officers responded to a call about a man walking in the estuary with what appeared to be a rifle in his backpack.

It turned out to be a fake rifle, police said.

Police responded to the call at approximately 3:30 pm yesterday, February 27, according to Cst. Ashley McKay of Squamish RCMP.

“Police responded to a suspicious occurrence wherein a male was reported to have walked into the estuary carrying what appeared to be rifle in his backpack,” she said.

Police located the man and determined the alleged rifle was a realistic looking air soft gun.

Constable McKay said the police educated the male on proper ways to carry imitation firearms in public.
