Local artist, musician, and poet Amber Gould is inviting the community to the Annual Squamish International Women’s Day Art Show Gala.

The gala will be held on March 10, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at the Foyer Gallery at the Squamish Public Library in Downtown Squamish.

Although the gala is on March 10, the art show runs for one month, from March 4 to April 6, at the Foyer Gallery in Squamish.

The show is run by volunteers and donations will be accepted at the gala celebration.

There will be variety of visual art pieces to explore along with live performances including, art, video, music and a special performance of aerial dance from Martina Page Aerial at the gala.

“The show will be a delight to the senses, and will provide the community with a chance to be inspired and be provoked towards creativity,” says Gould.

The International Women’s Day Art Show was originally started by local artist Pat Robinson, who was inspired by an all-women themed show in Ontario.

In its sixth year, the show is now coordinated by Amber Gould, who says the show has proven itself to be a powerful art experience for the community.

The theme for this year’s show is Provocation, and it is meant to stir a variety of responses.

“What does it mean to be provocative? How are we provoked? What do we provoke? What and who might we be afraid to provoke? These are all question that the artist can ask themselves,” Gould says.

The answers to those creative queries, she says, will emerge on the canvas, in the sculpture, the multimedia garment or photograph, whatever art form that particular expression may take.

The submission fee from each artist is also redirected to a women’s or arts organization in the community as a way to reinvest into women in the community.

Gould said she is grateful to Squamish Savings who have generously supported the gala event for six years. Food and drinks will be donated by Nesters Market – Squamish and boutique baked goods will be donated by Bespoke Baking.

I am honoured to be mentioned in this article of the Squamish Reporter. This will be my 3rd time contributing to this show but the first time doing a live performance for the show. I will be representing women and my new business endeavour Kwasun Aerial Journey Inc. Which is designed to empower women to come, get strong, and fully experience how much they can accomplish, and feel authentically beautiful doing it. I am very excited to contribute. I will ensure that my costume will not disappoint.
