Former council candidate and businessman Rajan Hans is announcing a new scholarship of $1,000 for high school seniors at the Howe Sound Secondary School.
He is encouraging students to apply and spread the word about the scholarship. The monies will be paid to the institution the student is enrolled in by the Karm Charitable Foundation, a charity that Hans runs.
Hans runs a registered charity and its primary goal is to increase literacy among youth and adolescents while reducing gender disparity by providing equal access to education.
His charity has also worked on empowering youth through education in Punjab, India, where his family comes from.
The scholarship will be given to a top all-around student in a post-secondary program. Students should apply in writing, setting out their qualifications and intentions with respect to higher education.
The award must be used within one year, but may be deferred upon written request. The deadline is today.
