Day-use gate closed at Alice Lake Provincial Park

staff report
March 27, 2020 9:49am

BC Parks has closed the day-use gate at the Alice Lake Provincial Park to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The action was taken to reduce the number of visitors using the park and facilities at one time and to enhance social distancing.

BC Parks said there is parking up the Alice Lake road, past the campground, and visitors must park in designated parking lots and observe the “no parking” signs posted.

“Vehicles parked illegally will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense,” BC Parks warns.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, BC Parks has also closed the Alice Lake campground. Any existing reservations until April 30 will be cancelled and refunds will be issued.

BC Parks said it will also close the Elfin Lake shelter at the Garibaldi Provincial Park due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Services are suspended and facilities are closed at several BC parks throughout the province, including locally at Brandywine Falls Provincial Park, Brackendale Eagles Provincial Park and Porteau Cove Provincial Park.

BC Parks has closed the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park and Protected Area, the Murrin and Shannon Falls provincial parks in Squamish.

Several other parks across the province have also been closed, including the Joffre Lakes Provincial Park.

Parks throughout British Columbia are seeing an increase in visitors, but many people fail to comply with the  requirement to stay at least two metres away from others.

This puts the most vulnerable populations at risk, which prompted the government to shut down some parks completely and partially close other parks in the province.
