Woodfibre LNG has applied to the BC Environmental Assessment Agency for an extension to the assessment certificate.
Th company is seeking a five-year extension to the certificate, and hopes to start construction after October 2020.
The current certificate expires in October.
“Amidst unprecedented global uncertainty, I want to be clear that the Woodfibre LNG project is still moving ahead. We are continuing to work with our Indigenous and commercial partners to meet all of our pre-construction commitments,” said David Keane, the president of Woodfibre LNG.
Meanwhile, Keane said Woodfibre LNG is not exempt from the effects of the COVID-19 virus, one of the reasons for a revised schedule.
“Like many other Canadian companies, we are attempting to adjust timelines as the effects of COVID-19 unfold. COVID-19 has had implications for our vendor’s manufacturing facilities and fabrication yards,” said David Keane.
WLNG had some specialized equipment under construction in a yard in Asia, which has closed temporarily because of the COVID-19 virus.
The epidemic will delay the manufacturing of specialized equipment and fabrication of modules for the company.
