CN suspends rail service between Squamish and Williams Lake

Staff report
April 2, 2020 1:26pm

CN Rail will suspend train service between Williams Lake and Squamish due to the decline in customer demand.

The suspension will come into effect before April 8.

CN said it is no longer feasible for CN to maintain the current service for the area. The company is telling customers on the corridor they will now see their traffic routed via the Prince George – Kamloops – Vancouver corridor.

“This is not a decision taken lightly,” said Jonathan Abecassis, a spokesperson for the company.

“We are sympathetic to the disruption of this change on the lives of our employees, particularly in the current environment, and they may have an opportunity to remain with CN in other locations,”

Based on collective bargaining agreements and seniority, employees may elect to work at other CN locations in BC where there is staff shortage.

CN said it is focused on the health and safety of its employees as well as the essential movement of critical supplies for all Canadians.
