Two held for stealing batteries from sign on Highway 99

staff report
April 8, 2020 4:29pm

Whistler RCMP arrested two people for theft and mischief to a highway sign on Highway 99 at the intersection of Function Junction.

On April 4, at approximately 8:45 am, Whistler RCMP were called to the intersection of Highway 99 and Function Junction for a report of mischief to a highway sign that had occurred earlier in the night.

Whistler RCMP said the batteries from the sign had been removed and the sign knocked over and damaged.

Police were able to identify two suspects associated with a black bus that appeared to have been converted into a camper in the area.

Later in the day RCMP received a tip about a possible match to the bus in the Pemberton area. Police investigated and took two people into custody for possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance believed to be crystal meth.

A 36-year-old woman from Vancouver was released pending charge approval.

Another suspect, a 40-year-old male from Vancouver was held in custody due to an outstanding warrant for his arrest and then released pending the approval of charges.
