Beginning today, there will be an increase in police presence at local and provincial parks, on Crown land, waterways, and on Whistler Blackcomb ski hill.

Additional RCMP officers will also patrol the Sea to Sky Corridor over the weekend from North of Pemberton to Lions Bay.

There will be check stops in high traffic areas, and more than usual police checks along the Sea to Sky Highway.

These steps are being taken in anticipation of the increased number of people and vehicles in the Sea to Sky corridor over the Easter Long weekend.

The Sea to Sky RCMP officers are aware of the concerns of the community during this time, said Sgt. Sascha Banks of Squamish RCMP.

“As we have done in previous years, Sea to Sky RCMP has a dedicated set of resources to focus on impaired driving, liquor infractions, and other provincial statutes,” she said.

All agencies are coming together this weekend to have a larger presence at recreational and camping hubs, said Squamish Mayor Karen Elliott.

“We must stay the course and do the right thing for the health of our community and other British Columbians. We’re in this together and respect our ask to stay close to home this weekend,” she said.
