From April 7 to April 13, Squamish RCMP and Sea to Sky Traffic Services impounded 11 vehicles for speeding on Highway 99.
Police pointed out two examples: On April 11, a Lamborghini was impounded for driving 154 km/hour in an 80 km zone. Shortly after, a Toyota Corolla was impounded for driving 145 km/hour in an 80 km zone.
Squamish RCMP are reminding the public that lack of traffic on the highway doesn’t make it safe to drive at high speed.
Police said they will continue to do traffic enforcement during the pandemic.
Squamish RCMP are reminding that an excessive speed stop leads to a $368 violation ticket, a seven-day vehicle impound, and three points off the licence plate.
Impaired dirt biker
On April 10, Squamish RCMP were conducting foot patrols in the estuary and in Downtown Squamish when they came across a group of dirt bikers.
Police grew suspicious of one rider, who was asked to provide breathing samples into a screening device. The driver failed the screening test and the motorbike was impounded for 30 days and license suspended for 90 days.
