Squamish RCMP have responded to seven fire complaints this week, and it has prompted a reminder by police about the fire ban that is in place.
The calls have ranged from backyard fires, camp fires and beach fires within the District of Squamish boundaries.
These types of calls put an unnecessary strain on police, Squamish RCMP said. Police are reminding that the District of Squamish has issued a fire ban in the district.
On April 17, district announced that all campfires within the District of Squamish are prohibited, even if under 50 centimetres in diameter, and even if a current permit exists.
District has also suspended all existing fire permits, and won’t be issuing any new permits.
Squamish RCMP are also investigating a brush fire in Valleycliffe last week that is believed to be human-caused.
The brush fire near Stawamus Elementary School burned an area of 60 feet by 100 feet, and ran 30 feet up nearby trees. It was quickly extinguished by ten firefighters.
Meanwhile, BC Wildfire Service is also reminding people about open fire prohibitions in place.
The service said conservation officers are conducting regular patrols throughout the province, and provincial agencies are working closely to investigate the cause of wildfires and any improper fire use during the open burning ban.
