School district 48 says school staff and maintenance crews are preparing local school buildings for new COVID-19 standards before increasing the number of people allowed at each site.
SD 48 will redesign classrooms to create more open space and will enhance cleaning while creating part-time learning schedules.
The school board is also working on transportation plans, creating new arrival and departure routines, outlining staggered breaks and lunch scheduling for students.
New emergency plans and staff schedules are also being worked on.
All the changes are part of provincial plans for a gradual reopening, which includes partial return to in-class instruction for some students.
School superintendent Lisa McCullough said more specific information regarding bussing, drop-off and pick-up, and scheduling will be shared soon.
“We want to assure you that the safety of your child and our staff remains a top priority and we will continue to take our guidance from the Medical Health Officer and the Ministry of Education,” she said.
“We really look forward to the return of our students and miss the smiles and joy they each bring to our community.”
