Whistler resident wins $500,000 Lotto Max draw

Francis Masculino purchased the ticket at Squamish Walmart

A Whistler resident has won $500,000 on a Lotto Max ticket he purchased at the Squamish Walmart in March.

Francis Masculino said ‘Yes’ to the Extra when he purchased his ticket, and feels “grateful” for his big win. He plans to pay-off his vehicle and purchase a home.

Masculino, who has called Whistler home since moving to Canada from the Philippines in 2008, initially checked his ticket while filling up for gas, but couldn’t believe it.

He drove home and downloaded the BCLC Lotto! app to check it again. He told his wife immediately, who almost cried upon hearing the good news.

“This means I can spend more time at home with my kids,” said Masculino, who noted that the life-changing win means he can work one job, instead of two.

Masculino claimed his prize using BCLC’s temporary alternate prize-claim process.

So far in 2020, B.C. lottery players have claimed approximately $54 million in winnings from Lotto Max and the Extra.
