Lamborghini impounded for speeding on Highway 99

staff report
June 16, 2020 11:15am

Squamish RCMP has impounded a Lamborghini for speeding on Highway 99.

The driver was travelling at a speed of 130 kilometre per hour in a 80 kilometre per hour zone when he was stopped at Porteau Cove.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver was given a violation ticket.

Wildlife attractant warning
On June 3, BC Conversation Officers requested police assistance while responding to a report of a bear outside a tent at Alice Lake Campground.

Police determined that racoons were enjoying an early breakfast on food that the campers had left out.

Squamish RCMP are reminding the public that wildlife is active in the community and attractants need to be secured in an appropriate manner.

Increase in theft from Motor vehicles

Between June 2 and June 8, Squamish RCMP received twelve calls for theft from motor vehicles throughout Squamish, including one call in a secure parking garage.

Police said the number is likely higher, as some people may not report the thefts or may not notice that items are missing.

These incidents usually occur overnight when criminals walk around neighbourhoods looking for unlocked vehicles.

Police are increasing patrols at night, but are also appealing to the public to remove all valuables from vehicles and to ensure that vehicles are locked.

The investigations into the thefts are ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Squamish RCMP.
