An RCMP police service dog has helped officers find two lost children near Mamquam River.
Kal and his police handler are members of the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS).
Last weekend, they were in the area when Squamish RCMP called them about a family who was searching for their kids near the Mamquam River.
The river was running high and fast, and the family was worried about the kids.
Kal was dispatched to the scene to assist along with Squamish Search and Rescue to find a four-year-old and a six-year-old who had disappeared from the area about one hour ago.
It didn’t take too long before Kal helped find the kids. The kids were located just 500 metres away in thick brush, blissfully oblivious to the land-and-water search happening around them.
The kids were not injured and were walked back to the family for the happy reunion.
“When Kal is called to duty, he puts on his expert sniffer and that’s what he did this weekend when he helped officers find two lost children in Squamish,” said Corporal Michael Jordan.

Dear Dora,
This letter is concerning BC Transit in Squamish, Yesterday I was downtown wanting to take the bus to the Estates only to find out that in order to catch the bus I had to walk all the to the library from the Chierton Center, being a senior with respiratory issues it was extremely difficult to walk to the library to catch the bus.
This is not an acceptable main transit stop, anyone including seniors, SPECIAL needs people, parents with young children, carrying groceries or packages,it is much too far to walk.
In the winter months with the cold and wet weather we have here.
The bench they have at the library is not adequate for a bus stop, there is no shelter to wait in and it is much too dangerous to be waiting down in that area.

Yes you are so right how inconvenient for people who went to shop at the Chieftain center and are seniors or just needing transportation. Well around here just to go somewhere people have to put aside a whole day.
Who ever is in charge just made something that people loath and avoid to something even worse. When reading this i was in disbelief,NO WONDER the bus is always empty.
One senior was charged 25 dollars for one short cab ride from valley cliff to the walk in clinic.
Uber once here will be well received by the community.
Thank god I still have my own car but I have emphaty for people who are at the mercy for transit in Squamish.
