Karen Clarke has been appointed the new Executive Director of the Squamish Community Foundation.

“Karen brings a wealth of local community experience and relationships to SCF including an educational background in Anthropology and Community Economic Development,” the foundation said.

Clarke worked for four years in Ghana, West Africa, before moving to Squamish in 2004 with her daughter, Yinimi.

She worked with the Howe Sound Women’s Centre, and later became the Vancouver Coastal Health Community Developer for the Sea to Sky Corridor, where she served until 2014.

She held several positions at the Sea to Sky Community Services since 2009, and worked as a Manager of Outreach Services for the last two years where she found fulfilment in creating an environment of support and positive relationships in order for staff to do the often challenging work of providing essential services.

Clarke’s fundraising experience includes an off-road bicycle ride across Canada with a team of four women raising money for and promoting the YWCA’s ‘Week Without Violence’ in 2000.

“Karen is excited to be a part of the Squamish Community Foundation to help deepen its relational roots in this community and to assist in the growth of its philanthropic contributions and continuing support for non-profit activities in Squamish,” the foundation said.
