Squamish RCMP warn about spoof calls from detachment

staff report
July 15, 2020 9:51am

Squamish RCMP has received several complaints from various sources about calls that seem to be coming from local police detachment and the Canada Revenue Agency.

These scamsters are asking potential victims for Bitcoin deposits as well as iTune gift cards.

Police wish to remind locals that they don’t make calls asking for bitcoin, Social Insurance Numbers, banking information, or gift card numbers.

Police also doesn’t call people to collect unpaid debts.

“We do not ask for money over the phone,” said Sgt. Sascha Banks of Squamish RCMP.  “Please hang up and call us back if you ever doubt a call.”

Squamish RCMP are asking residents to call them if they receive a suspicious call from the detachment.

The number is 604.892.6100.

“Do not commit to any type of transaction until you have verified you are indeed speaking with the police,” said Sgt. Sascha Banks.
