A climber is in hospital after sustaining serious injuries to his arm while climbing on Slhanny.
Squamish Search and Rescue spokesperson BJ Chute said the man was on a climb called Birds of Prey when he was struck by a piece of rock.
“It’s a fairly serious arm injury, and I am not sure if the rock struck him when he pulled on the rock, or he fell and broke him arm,” he said.
Chute said 20 SAR volunteers responded to the call around 8 pm yesterday.
They were able to rescue the man using a rope system and he was treated for the injury and taken to the Squamish General Hospital.
In another incident, a man called emergency services after losing his way while hiking in a trail behind the gondola.
As many as 20 SAR volunteers responded to that call. “We were able to locate the man and escort him back to the gondola and fly him out to safety,” Chute said.
That call came at 5:30 pm, and SAR volunteers worked until 3 am to get the man to safety.
