The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) has issued an Evacuation alert for Lillooet Lake Estates, Heather Jean Properties and other identified properties within Electoral Area C.
A wildfire burning above Lillooet Lake and the In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Road and a heavy downpour has created conditions that present a risk of a debris flow down the McCullock Creek drainage.
The Evacuation Alert has been issued to prepare residents to evacuate their property should it be found necessary.
Only some properties are assessed as being at direct risk from the debris flow. However, due to the potential for the In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Road to be damaged, all properties in this area have been placed under this Evacuation Alert.
Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an evacuation order.
However, conditions can change very quickly.
MFLNRORD advises that if heavy rain (greater than 5 mm/hour) is occurring, either evacuate immediately or remain indoors. Do not go near the creek or investigate loud sounds.
If thunder or lightning is observed, evacuate immediately or remain indoors. The safest place to remain indoors is an upstairs floor, or on the downhill side of the house.
While this evacuation alert is specific to the McCullock Creek drainage, Catiline Creek continues to present a debris flow risk.
All residents and visitors should be aware of the potential for debris flows from either drainage during a heavy rainfall event.
