Wind warning issued for Howe Sound

staff report
September 5, 2020 4:45pm

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Howe Sound for Monday, September 7.

Wind gusts upwards of 70 kilometer per hour are possible leading to an increased risk of damage from trees.

Following an abrupt change in weather conditions across the prairies, a strong ridge of high pressure will build over northern BC and spread southwards, beginning Sunday night.

Rising pressures will drive strong outflow winds through coastal valleys on the Labour Day Monday.

Winds will likely be at their peak during the day but could potentially remain gusty through Monday night.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions, the agency warns.
