Dust abatement on Mamquam FSR to happen twice

Staff report
October 6, 2020 11:31am

District of Squamish will be able to apply dust control on the Mamquam Forest Service Road twice.

In a response to a local citizen, Gary Buxton, the general manager of community planning and infrastructure, said the district was testing a new dust control product that was significantly cheaper than the previous product.

This would enable the district to make more than one application per year, he said.

He was responding to a Valleycliffe resident who said dust abatement was needed as the number of people using the Mamquam FSR has grown over time.

“The number of people using the Mamquam FSR this year is extraordinarily high. The level of dust coming off the road has reached epic proportions, which has triggered asthma to flare up in my wife for the first time ever,” the resident said.

The resident emphasized that dust abatement should be dedicated budget item as dust abatement on FSR would be particularly helpful for those living close to the river in Valleycliffe.
